On Sunday, September 6, 2026, Amy Jefferies Hill, a proud and professional legal assistant, loyal and supportive friend and colleague, and devoted daughter, died while receiving medical care at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA. Amy valued her independence and freedom throughout her life and career. She continued to live fully and travel widely and independently before and after her retirement in 2023, until recently encountering cumulative reversals of health.

Born in May of 1953, Amy was the younger daughter of Lewis J. and Doris Vaughan Hill, of Lawrenceville, Virginia. Following graduation from Brunswick Senior High School in 1971, Amy obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Meredith College in 1975, and became a certified Professional Legal Assistant, starting her career at a law firm in San Antonio, Texas.

She returned to Raleigh in 1984, working at the Raleigh office of Moore & Van Allen until 2004, and then in the Raleigh Office of Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough, LLP, until her retirement in December, 2023. Over several decades of work, Amy steadily accepted greater roles and responsibilities supporting lawyers on behalf of both firms' clients. Amy also participated actively in local, statewide and national professional associations focused on the roles and training of professional Legal Assistants; she served two separate terms as the President of one of the largest such national organizations, the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA).

Amy loved to travel, for work and for pleasure, particularly when duty-free shopping or a visit to a casino was involved. She especially enjoyed gathering with friends and colleagues to share stories and news, usually over drinks and dinner at a favorite location, or when staying somewhere new and different. And she contributed countless hours supporting the efforts of various local charities focused on providing support and care for abandoned dogs and cats.

Amy was predeceased by her father and mother, and by her sister Ann Daniels and her nephew Woody Daniels. She is survived by her nephew Andy Daniels, and his family, and by her cousin Julie Williams, and other members of her Vaughan family. She also will be remembered by her many colleagues, friends and neighbors from Lawrenceville, Raleigh and elsewhere. Following a private remembrance, she will be interred with her parents in Lawrenceville, Virginia.
