Andrea Iliadis passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at Duke University Hospice, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 60 years old.
Andrea was born in Bocholt, Germany, and pursued her studies at the University of Münster, where she earned her Master’s degree in social pedagogics in 1987. Not long after, she moved to the United States with her husband, Christian, as he began his Ph.D. studies at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Together, they built a life across continents, living in Vancouver, British Columbia, from 1993 to 1996, before settling in Carrboro, North Carolina, where Andrea made her home for nearly three decades.
In North Carolina, Andrea found a second calling as an artist. She created and sold vibrant metal and wood pieces, bringing joy to homes as far away as Ocracoke Island. Her artwork was a reflection of her spirit: bold, joyful, and full of life.
Andrea is survived by her husband, Christian; her daughter, Alina; her son, Kimon; her son-in-law, David; her beloved grandson, Albie; and her brothers Ingo and Roman.
Andrea had a deep love for her family and maintained strong ties to her roots in Germany, often traveling to visit her loved ones. She also cherished the time spent in Greece, her husband’s homeland. She will be remembered for her warmth, her open mind, and her quiet strength. Friends and family knew her as someone who always thought of others first: kind, generous, and deeply loved.
She is missed beyond words.
