Bill W. Bell

Bill W. Bell, 76, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away on August 8, 2026. Born on November 4, 1949, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Bill was the son of Ada and Ulysses Bell.

Bill lived a life marked by his devotion to family, his gift for friendship, and his enthusiasm for life's many adventures. He spent most of his professional career in business development within the pharmaceutical industry, where he was respected for his integrity, professionalism, and ability to build meaningful relationships.

Above all, Bill was devoted to his family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them, whether at the beach, cheering on their sporting activities, or simply enjoying one another's company. His love, encouragement, and sense of humor will remain a lasting gift to those who knew him best.

Bill was an avid traveler who welcomed every opportunity to explore new places and create memories with family and friends. He was also a passionate University of North Carolina Tar Heels fan and rarely missed a chance to support his beloved team.

He shared a special bond with his brother, Gary Bell, and sister in law, Laura and treasured their many trips to the beach as well as their annual pilgrimage to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, a tradition that brought them years of enjoyment and unforgettable memories.

Bill was also deeply loved by his extended family at the 94th Street Pub in Durham, North Carolina. As a proud member of the Pub family and a beloved member of "The Board," he valued the friendships, laughter, and camaraderie that became such an important part of his life.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Bell; his parents, Ada and Ulysses Bell; and his sister, Sandra Phillips. His family finds comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with Carolyn and his loved ones who went before him.

He is survived by his brother, Gary Bell and wife Laura of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his daughter, Jennifer Holt and husband Brian of Cary, North Carolina, and their children, Zach and Tristin; his daughter, Kelly Whittemore and husband Lail of Medina, Tennessee, and their children, Addison, Emmi, Annie, and Eliza; his son, Michael Bell and wife Randle of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and their children, Vin and Burchett and his late wife's grandchildren, Gabrielle and Madalyn Cappelletti.

Bill will be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, generous spirit, and unwavering love for family and friends. He never met a stranger and had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the friendships he nurtured, and the family he loved so deeply.

He will be greatly missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
