Carlo Francis LoVecchio

June 4, 1938 — December 27, 2025

Durham, NC

Carlo Francis Michael LoVecchio passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in Durham, NC.

Born on June 4, 1938, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Charles LoVecchio and Amelia Mangialardo LoVecchio. Carlo graduated from Sayre High School in 1956, where he played baseball and basketball. He was a talented musician who mastered several instruments, primarily focusing on the saxophone and clarinet.

Following high school, Carlo attended Villanova University, majoring in English, where he supplemented his income by playing in a jazz band. After graduation, he taught at Ithaca College for four years before joining Tioga Center High School, where he dedicated 36 years to shaping young minds. At Tioga, Carlo taught 11th and 12th grade English, Mass Media, and helped establish a distance learning program that significantly expanded academic opportunities for students. He coached golf, co-directed multiple variety shows, and captured memorable moments on video at school sporting events. Carlo was also instrumental in the development of the school yearbook.

Beyond his professional and family life, Carlo found solace in nature. An avid golfer, he cherished playing at Shepard Hills, where he served as club president and built lasting friendships both on the course and in the clubhouse. Carlo also enjoyed hunting, often sneaking into his tree stand before work.

Known for his warm smile, quick wit, and insistence on proper grammar, Carlo’s teaching extended beyond the classroom. He guided, corrected, and encouraged with a blend of humor and wisdom, always ready with a kind word or insightful remark. His genuine interest in others, especially his family, was evident in his favorite phrase: “I love you, and I know you do too…”

Carlo is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Christine Clement LoVecchio, and their daughter Jennifer (Jeff) Quinn of Durham, NC. He was also a loving stepfather to Amy (Patrick) Thompson of Woodside, Queens, and Kristin (Scott) Doyle-Edmondson of Concord, MA. Carlo is further survived by five beloved grandchildren: Emily Madlin, Aidan Edmondson, Madelaine Edmondson, Nolan Quinn, and Lily Quinn, as well as great-granddaughter Brynlee Ayers. He was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Swigonski, and his nephew and Godson, Mark Swigonski. Carlo will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Joseph (Nitza) Swigonski, Suzanne (Brian) Ginch, Milissa (Donn) Stubbs, Terese (Matt) Mullen; cousins Francis Smith and Lori Mangialardo; great-nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members and friends whose lives he enriched.

Carlo, you were deeply loved by your family and friends, and your love will forever remain in our hearts.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 7th at 10am at the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre, PA. Following the service, a luncheon will be provided at Mangialardo's restaurant.
