Catherine McLeod Reynolds

May 18, 1951 — April 22, 2026

Durham, NC

Catherine “Cathy” McLeod Reynolds passed away peacefully in her home after a long and tenacious fight with a variety of health issues. Born and raised in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Dr. Robert and Cornelia “Dutch” McLeod, she attended Centre College and graduated from the University of Kentucky (with a second degree in math to come later from Mary Washington college). She married Arthur McCreary “Mac” Reynolds, Jr in 1973 and enjoyed 44 years of happy marriage until his passing.

Cathy was a teacher for many years, leaving a legacy amongst her students (including both her daughters) as a dedicated and caring educator. Having spent Mac’s Marine career helping other military families adjust to the challenges of moving, deployment and more, Cathy continued to help Marine families like hers through Marine Corps Headquarters and Military OneSource.

She was a fierce and loving mother and grandmother, a wonderful sister, a generous friend and a phenomenal teacher. She loved her family (especially her grandkids Maggie and Atlas), her friends, her students, her sweet pup Canyon (and her granddogs, Norman, Oscar, Hunny, Maple and Cocoa), a good meal and the Kentucky Wildcats. She lived and traveled around the world, threw fantastic dinner parties, enjoyed golf and mahjong, and remained grateful for the churches she joined, the neighbors she met and the medical professionals who supported herthroughout her life. She is survived by her two daughters, Christina Reynolds and Sara Kirk, her son-in-law David Kirk, her grandchildren Maggie and Atlas Kirk, her sisters Corky Herbert and Polly Keith and their families, and her brother-in-law John Reynolds, and his family.
