Elizabeth D. Malcolm passed away December 24th, 2024, peacefully at her home in Carrboro, NC with her sister by her side.
Born in Charleston, SC, Elizabeth’s education began at The Episcopal Day School, Bristol, VA, followed by Harrisonburg Public Schools through Jr. High. During this time her interest in acting blossomed. Through the JMU Theater Department she had a unique opportunity, at age thirteen, to participate in a play entered in The National College Theater Competition held at The Kennedy Center, Washington, DC.
Her family relocated to Charlotte, NC, where she graduated from Myers Park High School, followed by a degree from UNC, Chapel Hill, and membership in Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Receiving a BUNAC Fellowship to Edinburgh, Scotland, she worked for James Thin Bookseller and, perfecting her writing skills, reviewed various artistic performances for the Festival Times Magazine. Elizabeth loved Scotland and looked forward to returning.
The next nine years were spent in NYC working for an ad agency, moving back to North Carolina after 9-11. Working in various communication media in Charlotte, Durham and Pinehurst, she eventually called Carrboro home. Elizabeth could walk into a room making new friends in minutes but was very private concerning her illness. Family and friends are in disbelief at, what seems to them, a rapid decline in her health.
Left to cherish her memory are parents James Blair and Elizabeth Mattox Malcolm of Charlotte, brother J. Blair Malcolm, Jr. and wife, Ashley of Charlotte, devoted sister Laura Brun Malcolm of Chapel Hill, extended family, and friends and co-workers.
