Elizabeth “Libby” Jean Marshall, born December 30, 1987, passed away on Easter in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Libby brought warmth, intelligence, laughter and joy to every chapter of her life.
She excelled academically, graduating cum laude from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with degrees in Psychology and Biology and a minor in Chemistry. Following graduation, she began her career as a social worker, a path that reflected her deep compassion and enduring commitment to helping others. Combining her spirit of service with her media knowledge she and her life partner, Dmitri Medvedev, ultimately became independent producers of instructional videos whose subject matter routinely addressed training practices serving the pharmaceutical industry.
Libby found joy and renewal in the natural world. She loved camping, exploring the outdoors, and embracing moments of peace in nature. She was a passionate advocate for conservation and sustainability, reflecting her care for the world and her desire to leave it better than she found it.
Libby held a deep appreciation for the arts and music, She especially enjoyed stand-up comedy, which brought her laughter and light. Her curiosity and adventurous spirit led her to explore a wide range of creative interests. For example, Libby participated in improv, illustration, photography, dance, roller derby boot camp, ham radio operation, and many many other art classes and academic pursuits.
Libby was loved by many close friends, who cherished her vibrant spirit and quick wit. She was a fixture in both the ecstatic dance community and the regional burning man community, where her passion for transformative art and play of all kinds found lasting relationship and expression.
Libby will be deeply missed by her partner, Dmitri Medvedev; her parents, Martha and Charlie Marshall; and her sister, Jennifer Marshall. She will be remembered for her bright mind, her generous heart, her adventurous spirit, her bright laughter, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Libby was known for honoring and respecting each individual’s unique personality and complexity.
In private services, Libby was laid to rest in Ancestral Grove’s natural burial grounds at Heartwood Sanctuary in Siler City, North Carolina. Pall bearers were her Partner, Dmitri Medvedev; devoted friend Andrew King; and her cousins, Lance Brannon, Tyler Brannon, Megan Marshall Yarbrough, and Katie Marshall Stephens.
The Family is so grateful for the many devoted friends who supported Libby with more love than can be imagined or described. Thank you, Lulu Mauceri, Sheffa Ariens, Jeff Love, Gillian Corzine & Gary Thompson, Andrew King, Clover Dosier, and Hannah Michalove!!
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with those who wish to gather in remembrance of her life.
