Geoffrey James Kinsey, 55, of Horse Shoe, North Carolina, passed away on July 17, 2025 surrounded by the love & support of his large family.
Geoff was born in New Zealand on April 22, 1970 to parents James & Elizabeth Kinsey. He was a loving husband of 32 years to Tina Kinsey, father to Bryce, Blake, Tim & Lucas Kinsey, father-in-law to Arianna & Cara Kinsey, and Camryn Wolff, and G-pop to Allanna Kinsey. His early path led him to earn a degree in business and marketing and pursue a career in the horticulture industry. He paused his career to stay at home to raise his four young sons which led to his true calling of becoming an elementary school teacher. Geoff was a dedicated and beloved teacher for 15 years, touching the lives of so many lucky fourth graders who passed through his classroom. He loved the outdoors and the environment, craved big adventures, and took great pride in his family and their genuine and deep love and respect for each other.
Geoff loved to spend happy time with his family and his diverse and loving group of friends, often from the comfort of his whitewater kayak, his mountain bike or in attendance of one of his many favorite breweries. He enjoyed tending to his yard's landscape, reading books, writing poetry, cheering for the Denver Broncos even when it hurt, and spending precious quality time outside, on the screened porch or on magnificent adventures with his precious family and friends. He found peace in the calm of the forest and was an enthusiastic backpacker, often trekking into new & beautiful remote sites alongside anyone who cared to join. His spirit lived to be a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, be outside, serve others, create safe spaces for students & friends, and make countless silly jokes along the way.
In addition to his wife Tina, sons, three daughters-in-law and granddaughter, he is also survived by his father Jim Kinsey, two brothers Andy & Kelly Kinsey, mother and father-in-law Dottie and Donnie Culver, brothers-in-law Clay and River Culver, sisters-in-law Kelley Kinsey, Jennifer Kinsey and Verone Bright, nieces and nephews Isabelle, Elliott, and Anderson Kinsey, Reef and Sunny Culver, and Sage Cahan, his wonderful friends, and an extensive list of family far & wide.
A memorial celebration will be held in his honor on August 3, 2025 at 10am at Fred W. Symmes Chapel, Pretty Place - YMCA Camp Greenville in Cleveland, South Carolina. This service is reserved for Geoff's family, his circle of friends, friends of his family, and Geoff's and Tina's closest colleagues to celebrate his beautiful life and his impact on us all.
There are some important details regarding the memorial celebration:
1. Geoff's style was to "do life his way." He was most comfortable in his hiking clothes, biking attire or Denver Broncos fan-ware. So ... this is the dress code for his celebration!
2. Parking is limited at YMCA Camp Greenville. Carpool if you can.
And last, the family knows how beloved Geoff was in his education community and will work with his school family to plan a specific way for students and their families to remember and honor "Mr. Kinsey" at a different time. Much love to all.
