George Thomas Colom, Jr.

George Thomas Colom Jr, aged 34, passed away on January 19th, 2025. He was a beloved son and friend to many, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. George was born on November 4th, 1990, at Marine Corps Base, Twentynine Palms, California. He spent his formative years in Hubert, North Carolina, and graduated high school in 2009 in New Mexico.

After facing significant challenges in his early adult life, George discovered his true passion for cooking. Beginning his culinary journey at Chick-Fil-A in 2014, he worked diligently through the ranks from line cook to sous chef at various restaurants in Wilmington, Chapel Hill/Hillsborough, and Raleigh. His dedication and talent culminated in achieving the position of Executive Chef in 2024, at a French restaurant. George’s leadership in the kitchen earned him praise from his coworkers and chefs he worked with, and he was known for his commitment to helping others grow in their culinary careers.

More than his professional achievements, George was a devoted son, brother, and fiancée. He loved spending quality time with his fiancée, sharing stories, playing video games, and watching their favorite TV shows together. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.

In his free time, George enjoyed playing XBOX, Pokémon Go, and watching basketball, particularly cheering for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He also loved going out to bars and, true to his passion, cooking for those he cared about.

George always left a positive impact on everyone he met, both in and out of the kitchen. His kind heart, dedication to helping others, and loving spirit will be forever remembered by all who knew him.

George is survived by his loving parents, George and Maria, and his sister, Cristina. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 15th at 11am at Discovery Church International, Jacksonville, NC for family and friends.
