GEORGE HODGESON MANLOVE

Died after a challenging battle with prostate cancer and complications

George was born in Chicago, IL in 1947, growing up in Michigan. In 1965 he graduated from East Grand Rapids High School, where just last summer he celebrated his 60th high school reunion. George and Pat, his longtime partner, had a wonderful time exploring the area, beautiful Lake Michigan, and the bluffs, which he always spoke fondly about.

George received a scholarship to attend Deep Springs College in the Nevada desert in 1966-67, where only 12-15 students are selected each year. Their educational program is built on academics, student self-government and manual labor working on the farm and ranch as well as daily tasks necessary for running the college. George loved it so much he was able to stay on for an additional 6 months. George and Pat visited this impressive college and went on to backpack for 10 days in the High Sierras. Wow, what a wonderful trip!

In 1969 George attended Cornell University where he became a National & Telluride Scholar, earning a BA in Anthropology.

Along the way George spent a summer in Mexico working with the local people on establishing a better drinking water system. He had a great story about his hammock and a parrot that liked to walk down the ropes each morning to wake him up. He also spent 3 years on a 160 acre farm in Wisconsin, working as a carpenter in town, while experiencing the cold Minnesota winter. Later on moving to Winona, MN making beautiful sterling jewelry and doing gold casting. He was a skilled artisan and had an excellent eye for design and quality.

In 1987 George graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minnesota. Time for warmer weather, George and his family then settled in North Carolina, where George began his chiropractic career. Over the years George developed his practice into a functional/integrative approach to healthcare. George believed in focusing on the entire self not just one body part at a time. His many patients revered him as changing their lives and giving them a greater participation in their own health journey. George leaves a huge chasm for those who loved him, respected his knowledge, his kind heart, and his humor. George was devoted to helping people get to the source of their health challenges, possessing a wonderful merging of medical knowledge and intuition. George was a master at his craft, always keeping up with the latest in his field through research and seminars.

George was a great lover of nature and the outdoors, always up for hiking, backpacking, camping and the beach. He loved music, art and drawing. History and the world in general held a never-ending curiosity for George, he was forever researching the many things that he found interesting. George was also a great cook, able to quickly whip up delicious and nutritious meals.

George leaves behind his partner of 23 years, Pat. Four children: Adam, Mark, David (Natalie) and Hilary (Liz), and two grandchildren: Leo and Aiden; in addition to many grateful patients from his over 38 years in practice.

A special mention goes out to their gorgeous neighborhood cat, Pete, who spent most of his time on the deck giving love and companionship.

Though cut short, George's was a life well lived, enjoying numerous interests, while always helping others.

George, Dad, friend, Dr. Manlove, you will be missed and live on in our hearts!
