Glenda Lee Bogard Arndt passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 10, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, creative warmth, and deep devotion to her family and community.
She was born on November 5, 1950, in Riverside, California, to Glen and Clara (Hood) Bogard. A graduate of Newton Community High School in the Class of 1968, Glenda went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1973. She later returned to Eastern to complete a degree in education — a reflection of her lifelong commitment to learning and perseverance.
Throughout her professional life, Glenda held positions at Norris Electric Cooperative and Jasper County Unit #1. She was perhaps most widely known in the community through her work at Arndt’s Stores, the Hallmark and gift shop she co-owned with her husband, Tony. Under her care, the store became more than a business — it was a welcoming place where neighbors were treated like family, especially during the holidays when she would bake and serve dozens upon dozens of cookies for the annual Christmas open house. Her attention to detail, personal warmth, and gift for hospitality left a lasting impression on all who visited.
Glenda took great joy in gardening, decorating, and creating spaces that felt beautiful and lived-in. She possessed a subtle sense of humor, a strong sense of duty, and a rare ability to make others feel at ease.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Tony Arndt; her daughter, Ashley Arndt; and her beloved grandsons, Keegan and Holden Hart. She is also survived by her brother, John Bogard, and his wife, Gena; her nieces Rebecca Bogard and Emily Carroll; and her nephew Jon Bogard. Additional surviving family members include her sister-in-law Nancy Jo Arndt, niece Angela Jo McDermott, and nephew Keith Arndt.
Glenda’s life was marked by quiet generosity, enduring love, and the countless small acts of care that spoke volumes. She will be remembered with gratitude, and deeply missed.
