Obituary

Grant lived a remarkable life defined by generosity, humor, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in the potential of people. He told his grandchildren that everyone should strive to reach a place in life where they are able to help others. He lived by that philosophy every day, whether offering guidance, sharing wisdom, or lending support. Grant was a trusted friend and source of strength for many.

Business was one of Grant’s great passions. He possessed a bright entrepreneurial spirit and a sharp, creative business mind. Throughout his career, he helped build and grow successful companies, creating opportunities for others and contributing to organizations known for quality, innovation, and craftsmanship including Special-Lite, Landscape Forms, and Select Products Limited. He also thoroughly enjoyed playing the stock market, a lifelong interest that never ceased to fascinate him.

Grant's greatest pride was always his family. He was an incredibly kind, loving, and generous husband, father, and grandfather. His family will remember him not only for his wisdom and encouragement, but also for the warmth, humor, and steadfast support he provided throughout their lives. Grant also had a lifelong affection for dogs, particularly very large ones, and one was almost always by his side.

Grant is survived by his wife, Elora Young; his son, Eric Young; his daughter Melanie Young-Keefe; his son-in-law Stephen Keefe; and his three cherished grandchildren — Ahrianna Keefe, Amalie Keefe, and Noelle Keefe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Animal Protection Society of Durham (https://www.apsofdurham.org/), in honor of Grant.
