Guy Merriman Page, Jr., 79, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on January 15, 1946, in St. Albans, West Virginia, Guy spent his childhood in Pennsylvania before attending West Virginia University, remaining a proud Mountaineer for life. After college, he moved to North Carolina to begin what became a long and fulfilling career in the furniture industry, working as an independent salesman and contractor throughout the southeastern United States and participating for decades in the High Point Furniture Market.
It was on a blind date in Jamestown, North Carolina, that he met Diana Wall, the love of his life. They were married for 51 years and together raised three children, creating a home rooted in love, family time, and faith. He loved his children and his grandchildren deeply. They were a joy in his life and a source of constant entertainment for him. In 2018 Guy and Diana moved to Chapel Hill to be closer to their family.
Guy was a large presence in everyone’s life; a booming voice, a warm smile and a strong handshake. Everyone was a friend. He was a natural teacher, a steady presence, and a man who believed in doing things with intention. He was deeply involved in his children’s lives—from Y Guides, school sports, scouting, and countless backyard lessons in how to throw a ball (the key is to point at your target!). He built his career in the furniture industry from the ground up and made many friends along the way. He was respected for his honesty, work ethic, and the relationships he built.
Guy will be remembered for his kindness, humor, steadiness, and gentle wisdom. He is preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Guy Page, Sr.
He is survived by his beloved wife Diana Wall Page; his son Branson Halsted Page, his daughters Courtney Page Whilden, and Rebecca Page Forrest; his daughter-in-law Cristy Page, his sons-in-law Stephen Whilden and Todd Forrest; his beloved grandchildren Caroline Page, Branson Page Jr, Olivia Page Whilden, Ellery Whilden, Vesta Forrest; and his sisters Sterling Page Lauer and Susie Page Bugge and his four nieces.
His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the values he instilled, and the love he shared.
A service of celebration will be held at Chapel of the Cross, 304 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 10. Following the service, a reception will be held at the home of Branson and Cristy Page, 215 Keeneland Court, Durham, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County or a charity of your choice.
