In Loving Memory of Hedy

February 12, 1947 – June 7, 2026

Hedy’s life reflected generosity, resilience, and deep devotion to family and community. Born in Shanghai, China, after her parents fled the Holocaust, she carried a lasting appreciation for life and the people in it. She gave freely of herself and remained devoted to those she loved. Even in her final chapter, facing a long illness, she met each day with grace and courage.

Hedy is survived by her sister, Jean Levine; her niece, Marni Weinbaum, and Marni’s husband, Peter; her nephews, Daniel (Keri) and Jason (Amy); her great-nieces and great-nephews, Samantha, Natalia, Sylvie, Samuel, Cecilia, Maggie, and Andrew; many dear friends who became like family; and her daughter, Julie Mer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Gerald Levine, and many loved ones.

She was a giving soul who reached out to comfort and uplift others, whether known for years or met briefly. Her kindness touched many lives.

A graveside service will be held on June 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Westwood Cemetery in North Carolina, and will be streamed live on Facebook.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hedy’s memory to the Jewish National Fund.
