James L. Stallings, age 94, died in Carrboro, North Carolina on July 30, 2025. Jim was born in Posey Co., Indiana. He earned a B.S. and an M.S. degree at Purdue University and a PhD. at Michigan State University. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War as an officer in the U.S. Army. He taught economics at several universities and retired from Auburn University in 1989. In addition, he worked at the Bureau of the Census for several years and worked on economic development projects for the State Department in several countries in Africa before and after retirement.
He was active in several community organizations, Alabama Lions Club, Boy Scouts Auburn, Alabama, Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapel Hill, N.C., and Sons of the American Revolution, Hillsborough, N.C.
He was married to the late Evelyn Guard from 1952 until her death in 2024. He is survived by his three children, Julia Stallings Key (T. Scott), Carla Stallings Harrison, and Paul Robert Stallings (Lisa) and three grandchildren, Thomas Stallings Key (Melissa), Pamela Key Bishop (Christopher), and Catherine Stallings as well as six great-grandchildren, Nicholas Key, T. Samuel Key, Alexander Key, Sophia Bishop, Faith Bishop, and Barrett Bishop.
