Karen Rose Dorman-Tew, born on February 10, 1950, in Titusville, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 27, 2025, at UNC Healthcare. A devoted family member and a respected professional, Karen concluded her career retired from the federal government, serving her final years at the Army Education Center of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Karen was a graduate of Methodist University, having earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1995. She was known for her spunky personality, quick wit, and great sense of humor that endeared her to all who had the privilege to know her. Those who spent time with her cherished her laughter, especially during memorable moments with her grandchildren. The joy she felt during Christmas of 2024, when all the grandkids gathered to celebrate together, will remain a fond memory for the family. Her delight in life was exemplified by her laughter—particularly memorable was a moment when her granddaughter styled her grandfather's hair like Jimmy Neutron, and a charming day spent wearing bonnets alongside her husband and granddaughter.

Karen was passionate about various hobbies and interests. She loved attending dance competitions with her granddaughter through the Firehouse Family and found joy in sewing, growing roses, and cheering for the Steelers. A proud member of the Fayetteville Botanical Gardens, she appreciated the beauty of nature and spent many enjoyable moments amidst its splendor.

In her personal life, she married Larry Tew on May 20, 2000. Together they created a home filled with laughter and warmth. Karen is survived by her loving husband, Larry Tew; her brother, Terry Van Cise; her son Bobby Dorman and wife Stephanie McMillan-Dorman; her son Scott Firster; and her adored grandchildren: Tyler, Mercury, Christian, Justice, Josiah, and Evelyn, who was not only her granddaughter but also her best friend.

She rejoins in peace her beloved parents, Ray Van Cise and Evelyn Manninen, as well as her brother, Larry Van Cise.

Karen's legacy will be remembered through her humor, her love for her family, and her dedication to her community. She touched the lives of many and leaves behind a warm and lasting impact.

In lieu of flowers; please make donations in the name of Karen to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society (https://www.fapspet.org/) or the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens (https://www.capefearbg.org/support-the-garden/).These were two of her favorite organizations to support.

There will be a Memorial Dedication at the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens that will be announced at a later time.
