Linda Louise Jackson Alton passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of July 8, 2026.
The daughter of Howard and Dorothy Jackson, Linda was born on June 2,1947. Her younger brother “Butch” would follow her four years later. A spirited and curious young lady, she studied and performed in dance and played saxophone. She grew into the loving mother of her son Brent.
Linda’s curious and willing nature led her through several vocations including an agent for The Delaware County Council on Aging in Muncie, Indiana. She would often share colorful memories of her time with her son learning about kite-making from famed kite artist, Ansel Toney. In the late 1980’s, Linda served as secretary, investigator, and as interim director of the Human Rights Commission in Muncie, Indiana.
Linda studied Fine Arts earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1991. While pursuing a Master’s Degree, she continued making rare and beautiful art and serving as a graduate assistant in the Ceramics Department at Ball State University.
In 1996, Linda joined her son’s family in North Carolina. She spent years there teaching small art classes, advocating for the young and underprivileged as well as the elderly, disabled and underserved in her community. She worked for IBM, & Price Waterhouse Cooper, in support of HR & insurance for employees. She was a helpful caretaker for her grandson, worked in daycare, and at Home Depot. She knitted hats for preemie babies, cooked delicious food for friends and family, and made cards for friends reminding them of how special they were and how much she loved them. She was trusted and loved by all those with whom she worked and served.
Linda is survived by her brother, Howard “Butch” Jackson, Jr. and wife, Sharon; nieces, Heather and Alyssa Jackson all of Selma, Indiana; her son Brent D. Alton and his wife, Carol as well as one grandson, Jackson his partner Danielle Pino. She leaves behind many broken, and love-filled hearts of friends near and far.
A celebration of Linda’s life and work with be held in Spring 2027 amid the pastel blossoms of Life’s renewal.
