Lisa Ronette Oxendine, 54, of Wendell, North Carolina, passed away on September 27, 2026, surrounded by her mother and close friends.

Born on February 26, 1972, Lisa was the beloved daughter of Carolyn Hunt Oxendine and the late Delton Oxendine. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an accomplishment and connection that remained an especially meaningful part of her life.

Lisa treasured her family and the remarkable circle of friends she gathered throughout her life. She had many friendships that endured across the years, and she was deeply loved by those who knew her. Her personality was unmistakably her own: loyal, spirited, quick-witted, and never afraid to offer an opinion.

Anyone who knew Lisa knew she loved UNC fiercely and proudly, and fans of rival teams could expect absolutely no mercy from her. She had an uncanny ability to find the funny in any situation and could deliver a perfectly timed sarcastic comment that kept the people around her laughing. Her humor was part of how she stayed connected to the people she loved. Lisa embraced every opportunity to gather friends and make memories. She loved bringing friends together to tailgate at UNC games, travel to her favorite tropical destinations, and scout out the best restaurants. For Lisa, it was all about the adventures, the funny stories, the laughter, and the people beside her.

Lisa was a member of Orange Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She also volunteered and served on boards and committees for several organizations including the UNC Alumni Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity, The UNC American Indian Center, and the Carolina Black Alumni Reunion Committee.

Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Delton Oxendine, and her niece, Brittany Oxendine. She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Hunt Oxendine; her brother, Michael Oxendine; and a host of extended family members and friends who will miss her tremendously.

Lisa leaves behind years of friendship, laughter, adventures, and memories that will continue to be told and retold. And on days when the sky turns that unmistakable shade of Carolina blue, those who love her will look up, smile, and imagine the #1 Tarheel fan still keeping an eye on the score.

Funeral services will be held at Binkley Baptist Church in Chapel Hill at 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 1 with burial service and reception to follow.
