Monique Peloquin Mueller, known affectionately by her husband as "Bunny," passed away on June 15, 2026, at Duke Hospital after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born on July 16, 1973, in Jefferson City, Missouri, Monique lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit.
Monique earned her MS in Public Health, a testament to her commitment to bettering the lives of others. Her career in project coordination & management with FHI360 allowed her to bring her passion for public health to a global stage, particularly demonstrated through her meaningful work with the people of Moldova during her time with the Peace Corps. This experience, among her proudest accomplishments, reflected her deep love for different cultures and her desire to make a positive impact worldwide.
A woman of strong will and grit, Monique was known for her firm yet caring nature. She possessed a vivid personality—she definitely knew what she wanted to say—and was an amazing, inclusive individual who welcomed many into her circle. Those who knew her remember her as always seeking something different to do and actively engaging in life’s many adventures, or figuratively a porcupine craving connection.
Monique found joy in a variety of interests—from playing board and card games, to always enjoying time in hot tubs with friends. She delighted in kayaking, hiking, cherished moments spent at the Mueller-Kerr lake cabin, the beauty of orange Gerber daisies, her appreciation for turn-of-the-century architecture, and her family's comical collection of family pelicans. Her love for international travel further demonstrated her adventurous spirit. Beloved holiday memories such as her family trip to France to Christmas with her family after their trip to Moldova remain vivid among those who hold her dear.
Family was at the center of Monique’s world. She and her husband, Kurt Mueller, created a beautiful family enriched with traditions, raising their children, Hudson and Marielle, with great love and care. Monique’s mother, Danielle Peloquin, and brothers Martin, Marc, and Michael Peloquin, along with the memory of her late father, Edward Peloquin, form the foundation of her French & catholic family roots.
Preparing for family and friend events was one of the many ways she expressed her love, and her unique habit of sitting extremely close to the steering wheel of her car is remembered fondly by those who shared those rides with her. A surprise elopement orchestrated by her husband remains a treasured story that captures the essence of their bond.
Monique Peloquin Mueller’s legacy is one of strength, compassion, and connection. She will be profoundly missed by her surviving family and friends, who remember her as a woman who combined tenacity with tenderness, making an indelible mark on the hearts of all fortunate enough to know her.
