He grew up in Wellsville New York and was a huge fan of Texas Hot hotdogs there! Later his family relocated to Pasadena, Texas, where he worked summer jobs at the docks of Sinclair refinery. He attended the University of St. Thomas in Houston where he met his wife Barbara and married in 1968. Then moved to Michigan for graduate school at which time they started their family, then spent early years with all kids in Bryan, Texas while Phil worked at Texas A&M. Work in electron microscopy then led them to Chapel Hill, NC in August of 1978.
Some of his true passions over his years were wood working and spending time with his numerous dogs and cats, feeding deer and birds on their land, watching hockey and lacrosse and supporting numerous meaningful causes. He made beautiful pieces of furniture as well as altars and lecterns for many churches in NC. He loved nature, sitting in the sun reading and walking the trails he made on his land in Orange County.
