It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness our family announces the unexpected death of our precious Phyllis E. Hooven of Myrtle Beach South Carolina, formerly of Port Matilda, PA, on Friday January 23 at Duke University Hospital. She was 75 years old.
Born January 6, 1951 to John and Marian (Putt) Hummel of Robesonia, PA. She married Ralph Bailor in 1970 who preceded her in death in February 1986. They had 3 children: Christian, Hannah, and Rachel.
She married Norman W. Hooven III on May 28 1988. For 37 years, they were devoted to one another and their children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband Norm, and her children Christian Bailor (Amber) and 5 grandchildren (Caleb, Addison, Braedyn, Crosby, Sunny), Jon Hooven (Jennifer), Hannah Gerello (Brian) and 2 grandchildren (Andrew & Alexander), and Rachel Quinn (Eric) and 2 grandchildren (Ethan & Harper).
Also surviving her mother Marian (of Lebanon, PA) and 2 brothers, Jim Hummel (of Lebanon, PA) and Peter Hummel (Susan) (of Auburn, PA).
In addition to working at Penn State, She was co-owner of Limerock Ornamental Grasses for 27 years. She retired in 2011 from The Pennsylvania State University as an Administrative Assistant. A born again Christian she ardently lived her faith out loud with courage and bravery. An outgoing people person, she made friends wherever she went. She didn’t know a stranger. After retirement she became involved with a card-making community which led to many lasting friendships. She perfected her craft and created elaborate and ornate greeting cards. Prior to starting the journey of a double lung transplant in October 2024, she had worked at Ways Fruit Farm in Port Matilda, PA.
A celebration of life will be held April 25 at Toftrees Resort and Conference Center in State College, PA from 11:00am to 2:00 pm.
