“Rick” Richard Francis Leach, 69, passed away on December 2, 2025. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Rick lived a life defined by motion, curiosity, and a deep commitment to the world of aviation. His career in airline and airport operations took him across North America, and he made homes in Montreal, Orlando, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Toronto, Long Island, Thunder Bay, Honolulu, Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Seattle, and finally Calabash, North Carolina. His path through so many cities reflected his adaptability, his sense of adventure, and the wide circle of people whose lives he touched along the way.
Rick was dedicated to the craft of keeping people moving safely and efficiently. His wanderlust and natural curiosity shaped not only the places he lived but the expertise he brought to his work. He was widely respected in the airline industry for his knowledge, his calm under pressure, and the unique skill set he carried with him wherever he went.
Rick had a big personality. He was funny, sharp, and blessed with clever wit that could turn an ordinary moment into something memorable. He was also an avid and talented cook, finding joy in preparing exquisite meals for the people he loved. The only things that rivaled his passion for cooking were his sports. Rick loved golf, was an enthusiastic follower of both the NFL and CFL and stayed loyal to his beloved HABS.
After decades of dedication to his profession, Rick retired in North Carolina to pursue his passion and devoted pastime of golf. The game brought him joy, challenge, and community. Sadly, his retirement was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer. Though he faced the news with courage and a determination to fight, his illness was already too advanced for treatment. Rick spent his final days in the compassionate care of hospice at UNC in Hillsborough, North Carolina, with his wife of 47 years by his side.
Rick is predeceased by his son, Matthew (1990–1992), and by his parents, Gerry and Dolly Leach (née Rafters). He is survived by his wife, Ann (née Enright), and by his son, Ethan (Aleks). Rick is also survived by his two older brothers, Brian (Maria) and Gary (Susan), as well as his sister‑in‑law, Carol Enright (late Michael O’Connell). He leaves behind his niece and nephews — Michael, Allison, Justin, Nicholas, and Darren — along with many cousins and friends who will remember him with deep affection.
Funeral services will be held on May 23, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 413 Main Street, Hudson, Quebec. Following the service, Rick will be laid to rest with his son Matthew at the parish cemetery, located at 141 Cameron in Hudson.
