Ronald "Ron" Waters was born on September 29, 1934, in Duncan, Arizona. He passed away, surrounded by his family, on October 20, 2025, in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

Ron had a distinguished career as an attack pilot in the United States Navy, serving for 26 years. His exemplary service included completing an impressive 868 aircraft carrier landings and flying 158 missions during the Vietnam War. In recognition of his bravery and dedication to duty, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 15 Air Medals. After retiring from the Navy, Ron continued to serve his country through his work as an engineer.

Education was highly valued by Ron, who was valedictorian of his high school and earned a Bachelor's degree in Geology from Arizona State University. He furthered his studies by obtaining an engineering degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Ron also completed naval flight training in Pensacola, Florida, and attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Virginia, honing his skills as a military leader.

A man of diverse interests, Ron was intellectually curious and enjoyed sharing his love for knowledge with others. He had a knack for telling amusing dad jokes, often resulting in groans from his daughters and granddaughters. Ron also enjoyed playing the guitar and trumpet.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sue Waters, and by his daughters: Susan Waters, Dr. Marcey Waters, and Rachelle Waters. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, Briana, Daria, and Margo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Lee Waters, and his mother, Elvira Ann Waters. He is survived by his brothers Lester and David Waters. Ron's legacy as a dedicated service member, adventurous spirit, and inquisitive mind will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
