Sherrill Guy Bryan, a loving father, grandfather, brother, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on June 5, 1945, Sherrill’s life was defined by unwavering faith, profound love for his family, and a deep commitment to serving others.
Sherrill graduated from Hobbton High School and went on to co-own the family business, Bryan Milling Company, in Newton Grove, NC. Known for his strong work ethic, he later transitioned to managing Handi-Houses in Goldsboro, NC. Yet, his proudest accomplishment was his devotion to his family—he poured his heart and soul into providing for them and ensuring they were cared for.
A man of strong convictions, Sherrill served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard, upholding the values of duty and service that guided every aspect of his life. He was a man of few pretenses—simple in his ways and honest in his words, offering truth with a steady hand and a caring heart, even when it wasn’t easy. His forgiving and loving nature created a nurturing environment that leaves a lasting imprint on all who knew him.
Sherrill’s faith was the foundation of his life. He found deep fulfillment in ministering to others—often dedicating his Sundays to visiting and praying with fellow church members, and offering comfort to those in nursing homes and hospice care. Even while undergoing treatments himself, he remained present for others in their times of need—sharing, praying, and reading Scripture alongside them. During his own quiet moments, he found strength and peace in reading his Bible. His church awarded him the 'Special Mission Award' in recognition of his unwavering commitment to Christ and his compassionate service to others—a legacy that continues to inspire.
His family was everything to him. Sherrill is survived by his daughter, Ashley Poole; son-in-law, Mark Poole; granddaughter, Imogen Poole; and grandson, Carter Poole. He shared a special bond with his sister, Audrey Bryan, who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Herrill Bryan, and his parents, Aldon and Catherine Bryan. He shared in the blessings of parenthood with his former wife, Kaye Bryan, mother of his daughter Ashley. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Sherrill found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He delighted in poker nights and friendly games of pool, and kept a keen eye on the stock market, staying engaged until his final days. His love of movies—especially those with heartfelt love stories—uplifted him and served as a reminder of the love he so deeply cherished in his own life.
As we remember Sherrill, we celebrate a life filled with love, faith, and an unyielding commitment to his family and community.
A celebration of his life will take place at Maple Grove Methodist Church on Sunday, September 21st at 3 PM, with family available to visit with those who wish to connect from 1:30 to 2:30 PM prior to the service.
