Sierra Katherine Wohlford Stanya of Raleigh passed away on June 2, 2025, in Cary, North Carolina, at 23. She is survived by her mother, Angalina Stanya; two sisters, Anna Thring and Veronica Clark; her emotional support animal, Nova; her father, George Wohlford; her aunt, Kim Poe; and many other friends, family, and loved ones.
Born on April 12, 2002, just after sunrise at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC, Sierra was a joyful addition to her family. She was funny and had a contagious laugh. She loved board games as long as she was winning. Sierra was a friend to all animals, especially dogs, cats, horses, and hedgehogs. Sierra was a fierce advocate for social justice and mental health awareness and would always be there to support a friend in need.
Sierra wanted to grow up – to be a mother, and maybe a veterinarian, a doctor, or a lawyer. She fought her illnesses with every tool she could access. An Aries sun, Aries moon, and Aries rising, Sierra was a fire sign through and through. She craved justice, but more than that, she craved peace. May she rest peacefully.
In continuation of Sierra’s pursuit of justice, you can make donations in her name to the Safe House Project .
