Timothy Vincent Murray

November 2, 1954 — April 20, 2026

Durham, NC

Timothy Vincent Murray passed away on April 20, 2026 in Raleigh, NC after a long battle with cancer. Tim was born in Washington, DC on November 02, 1954 and was raised in University Park, MD.

He is survived by his siblings Molly Murray, Daniel Murray (wife Mary Murray, children Keenan, Liam, and Maggie), Patrick Murray (wife Sarah Murray, children Kate and Michael), Colleen Lyon (husband John Lyon), Margaret Lamarre (husband Dennis Lamarre, son Sean Lamarre), Brendan Murray (wife Dana Thomas, children James Murray and Grant Murray), Tara Perry (husband Scot Perry, children Colin, Megan, and Max).

He was preceded in death by his wife Cecelia Hall Murray, father George Murray, mother Teresa Murray, and brother Michael Murray.

Tim will be remembered for his love of language, including his encyclopedic knowledge of the etymology of words, his prolific vocabulary, and his clever and humorous turn of when you spoke with him. Tim was intellectually curious and was an excellent student, always willing to help one of his younger siblings with their homework. He always had an appreciation of art, and his passion for woodworking with a career in framing. He enjoyed tinkering with different art forms such as stained glass, in his Durham home with his wife Cecelia, a beloved local artist. He was also a gifted cook, and would often take a trip to the Li Ming’s (the local Asian market) and make creative and tasty dishes. Above all of these traits, he will perhaps most be remembered by his family and lifelong friends for his kind heart. Although Tim wasn’t the most extroverted, he always had a kind word and a twinkle in his eye when he smiled that could brighten the entire room.
