Vance passed away gently May 27th from complications related to a recent cancer diagnosis.  He was surrounded by his family and was completely at peace.  He is survived by his spouse Catherine, son James (Tanya), siblings Ron, Lisa (Jeff), Tina (David) Jim (Stacy), 11 nieces and nephews and 2 dogs.  Vance grew up in Lincoln Nebraska and received a Master's degree in Microbiology from the University of Nebraska, followed by 34 years as a research scientist at Syngenta Biotechnology in Research Triangle Park.  In 2019 he joined his wife in retirement and enjoyed growing wildflowers and trees, playing his guitar, cooking, hiking and social dancing. 

There will be an outdoor service and burial for Vance at Bluestem Conservation Cemetery, 1900 Hurdle Mills Rd., Cedar Grove.  Guests should plan to begin arriving at 9:30.  The service will begin at 10 a.m.  Dress comfortably and casually for the weather and natural outdoor surroundings.  Good footwear recommended for slightly uneven terrain.  A buffet lunch will follow the ceremony (about 12:30)  at our home at 6835 Carol Lane, Hillsborough NC.
