William Harrill Cloninger

September 15, 1934 - November 15, 2025

William Harrill Cloninger passed away on November 15, 2025, at the age of 91.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ruth Cloninger; and his son, Jeffrey Cloninger.

He is survived by his sister, Jane Hord; niece, Megan; nephew, Richard; and Joy Grigg Hakan, who was his friend from age 12, his wife of 20 years, and later his loving partner for 20 years.

Harrill was born in Lawndale, NC, and graduated from Piedmont High School as an Eagle Scout. 

He served in the United States Navy, attended Gardner Webb College, UNC-Chapel Hill, and then graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1968.

During his 65 years as a Chapel Hill resident, he ran a successful real estate appraisal business, was a friend to many, and was an avid Tar Heel fan.

There is a graveside service at noon on Saturday, November 22, at the Chapel Hill Cemetery on Legion Road.
