William Paul Hubbard

William “Bill” Paul Hubbard, 68, of Holly Springs, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday evening, July 23, after a years-long battle with lung cancer.

Bill was born in Batavia, New York, and moved to Long Island where he lived until moving to North Carolina in 2009. He was a man who appreciated life’s simple pleasures. A father to three sons and two stepchildren, he loved nothing more than making memories with his family. He could often be found enjoying a good meal, playing cards, spending time outdoors or vacationing at his favorite lake in Massachusetts. In his later years, Bill became a proud grandfather and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. Bill’s love of the outdoors was also reflected in his work, as he spent much of his career as an arborist for the City of New York.

Bill leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Cherie Hubbard; his children, Brendan Hubbard and his wife, Heather, of Long Island, NY; Brad Hubbard and his wife, Kylie, of Wilmington, NC; and Bryson Hubbard of Holly Springs, NC; his stepchildren, Brianna Hukill and her husband, Logan, of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Eddie Freeman of Long Island, NY; his grandchildren, Brayden, Blake, Ruthie, Charlie, Thomas and Margot; his sister, Susan Janus, and her husband, John; his brother, Bruce Hubbard, and his wife, Gina; and an extended family who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Hubbard, and his first wife, Lisa Hubbard.

The family will hold a celebration of Bill’s life at his beloved Lake Pontoosuc at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Bill in the way he would have appreciated most: spend time with the people you love and share a big bowl of ice cream.
