William Roy Izlar was born in Durham and spent his first years on Green Street. First-born son to Barbie and Lee, William was a beautiful baby who loved to laugh. The family moved out to Rougemont where he spent time making forts in the woods, changing diapers, vacuuming and being a third parent to his subsequent 7 siblings and many cats.
William attended Cardinal Gibbons High School, where he found a passion for theatre and performance and formed life-long friendships. He graduated in the class of 2000, a beloved member of the Drama Club.
He went on to Appalachian State University where he studied English and theatre. William was known as extremely hard working. When he returned to Durham he worked at several local restaurants and bars – creating a community among his colleagues. His home became a refuge for those who needed him. Most recently, he was employed at Duke Hospital where he managed and mentored the janitorial staff.
William loved storytelling, watching movies with his family and friends, and making fabulous meals for his guests. He died in his home in Durham and will be desperately missed by his parents, his six sisters Kelly, Gillian, Kea, Camille, Natalie, Rossie and favorite brother Timothy.
